Chamomile

also known as

Chamaemelum Nobile

Chamomile is a small, daisy-like flower from the Asteraceae family, the same family as asters, daisies, and sunflowers. It is the national flower of Russia. It is also referenced in Shakespeare. In Henry IV, Falstaff states "the chamomile grows faster the more it is trodden on." It is a lovely metaphor for overcoming adversity and growing despite hardships.

Chamomile is most commonly used to make herbal tea. Many find chamomile to be calming and helpful for insomnia, though there is no scientific evidence to support that. Nevertheless, the act of brewing tea has been a calming ritual for centuries and chamomile's soft scent invites deep breaths and relaxation.
