White Sage

also known as

Salvia Apiana

Sage is a herbal shrub from the Lamiaceae family. It is related to basil, mint, rosemary, and other culinary herbs. The plants can grow 4-5 ft high and up to 4.5 ft wide. The flowers are white to pale lavender, and the leaves are a dusty-white evergreen color with tiny hairs that release an oil when rubbed.

Sage is often use as a cleansing herb. Historically this was practiced by Native American, First Nations, Inuit, and Metis cultures before it was adopted by New Age practitioners. It is now widely sold, to the extent that many traditional harvesting sites are now barren. It is absolutely acceptable to respectfully participate in these traditions under maintaining the sanctity of the ritual. Consider purchasing your sage from an Indigenous tribe.
